Toyota Ghana donates to Korle-Bu

By Bernard Yaw Ashiadey

Toyota Ghana Limited has donated two patient monitors valued at GHc 9000 to the Reconstructive Plastic and Burns Centre of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

The devices will be used to enhance the quality of patient care at the centre.

Chief Executive Officer of Toyota Ghana Limited, Takahiko Takabayashi, said his outfit is always ready to support the hospital to deliver quality health care to the country.

“We believe that this hospital needs all the support it can get to enable it meet the health demands of not only the ever-increasing Ghanaian population, but also all foreigners who travel long distances to access its services,” he said.

The monitors were received by Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah, Director General of the Centre.

“These monitors are used to constantly and automatically check the pulse, blood pressure, measure oxygen saturation and temperatures of severely injured patients. They have come at the right time, because injuries caused by gas and other petroleum explosions have increased,” he said.

He noted that even though donors are doing their best to support the Centre, it still needs more financial support to be able to purchase quality drugs and more modern medical equipment to perform surgeries without hitches.

Toyota made another donation of GHc 3000 to the Ghana Heart Foundation.

The Ghana Heart Foundation assists needy patients with about 50% of the cost of heart surgeries at the Cardiothoracic Centre of the hospital.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the Foundation, Dr. Baffoe Gjan, its Director, said the foundation will continue to subsidise heart surgeries to make their services accessible to all and sundry. He asked that individuals, corporate bodies and other donors should not relent in their effort to assist the foundation.

Toyota Ghana Limited has for years supported the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. Since 1998, it has adopted a wing and renamed it the Toyota Wing at the Plastic Surgery and Reconstructive Centre, and also donated a new Haice Ambulance to the Centre.
