Dealers Club holds AGM

By Bernard Yaw ASHIADEY

The Dealers Club, Ghana, an association of Treasury dealers from banks and financial institutions, has held its annual general meeting in Accra to deliberate on issues affecting the financial markets.

The event saw the handing over of power to new executives of the club, who will be led by Kobla Nyaletey as president.

Other executives include Nambware Emmanuel as vice-president; Kwainoe Othniel as Treasurer; Patricia Ashitey as Secretary; and Gloria Augustt as Organising Secretary.

The outgoing president, Kevin Adarkwa, in his speech asked members to continue the good work they are doing and enumerated some of their achievements and challenges.

“We have increased the number of participating banks; we have also held various foreign exchange trading seminars, held discussions on fixed assets, and also developed a well-functioning website.

“Some of the challenges we faced as a club were the punctuality of members and Treasurers of banks who do not take an active role in the dealing rooms of banks,” he said.

In his acceptance speech, incoming president Kobla Nyaletey stressed that they will work as a team to push the agenda of the club forward and also improve on the money market.

“We will work with all stakeholders, especially the BoG, Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (MOFEP), Ghana Association of Bankers (GAB), the Central Securities Depository (CSD), the Primary Dealers Association and similar organisations, to further develop the market.

“We will concentrate on member-dealer development to equip our members with the skills and tools to be excellent dealers and risk-managers, and will develop the money market and partner the primary dealers association to develop the secondary market for trading in government debt instruments,” he said.

The Dealers Club, Ghana, is an association of individuals who transact business on the financial market. It focuses on bringing members together to discuss issues affecting the market. It currently has a total of 25 banks as participating members.
